Fiji FACT hero Samuela Kautoga scored a second half goal and featured prominently as Rewa came from behind to beat arch rivals Suva 3-1 in the southern derby of the Vodafone Premier League at Ratu Cakobau Park tonight.
The Whites with the inclusion of experienced defenders Waisake Navunigasau and Filipe Baravilala started the match well and took an early lead as a good midfield play saw Baravilala slam the ball into the back of the net giving goalie Simione Tamanisau no chance.
Persistent pressure by the hosts saw stylish striker Iosefo Verevou take advantage of a defensive blunder and level scores just before halftime.
The Delta Tigers lifted their performance in the second half and looked more fit and determined.
Kautoga scored Rewa’s second goal in the 54th minute after a deep cross from the flank was mis-judged by the Suva defence.
Setareki Hughes had a couple of chances for Suva but Tamanisau’s experienced proved vital as he made some fine saves.
Striker Gabirieli Matanisiga sealed the match for Rewa in the 81st minute with a tap-in.
The win has pushed Rewa to the third spot on the Vodafone Premier League standings.
The Marika Rodu coached side now has 14 points from 8 matches and has displaced Labasa to fourth spot while Suva remains on second spot with 15 points after playing 8 matches.
