Fijian Drua thrashes defending champion

Newcomers Fijian Drua thrashed defending champions Perth Spirit 41-5 at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today to go on top of the National Rugby Championship (NRC) standings.

The hosts were ruthless from the opening whistle and scored four unanswered tries in the first half through halfback Frank Lomani, fullback Apisalome Waqatabu, Number 8 Peni Raidre and Captain John Stewart to lead 24-0 at halftime.

Waqatabu successfully kicked a penalty early in the second half to extend Fijian Drua’s lead to 27-0.

Forward Filimoni Seru scored the Drua’s fifth try before Fijian Isikeli Naisarani scored the visitors’ only try of the match.

Captain Stewart who displayed a Man of the Match performance wrapped up the big win for the home side after brilliantly finishing off a kick and chase effort in the dying stages of the match.

The Fiji Airways sponsored Drua will play their next away match against the Canberra Vikings on Friday.
