Ba beats Rewa, qualifies for semis

Ba has qualified for the semifinals of the 2017 Courts Inter District Championship (IDC) after beating Rewa 2-1 in a thrilling Group B encounter at Churchill Park in Lautoka tonight.

The Men In Black started the match attacking and after missing some good chances at goal, they went ahead in the 39th minute through striker Mavileko Nakama whose attempt from outside the box was misjudged by goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau.

Ba lost its top goalkeeper Josaia Ratu through an injury and introduced Misiwani Nairube at the beginning of the second half.

Rewa regrouped after the break and came out strongly with midfielder Jonetani Buksh finding their equalizer after finishing off a well set up move.

A counter-attacking move by Ba in the 63rd minute saw Samuela Nabenia walk past a few Rewa defenders and place the ball into the path of an unmarked Sitiveni Cavuilagi who blasted the ball into the roof of the net to give Ba a 2-1 lead.

Rewa toiled hard for the equalizer but some good goalkeeping by Narube and excellent defending from Remueru Tekiate and Manasa Nawakula kept the scores intact till the final whistle.

The Delta Tigers ended the match with only 10 players after midfielder Tevita Waranaivalu was sent off following his second booking.

Ba plays Dreketi in its final pool match at 4pm tomorrow and a draw will be enough to see the 24-times champs top Group B.

Rewa on the other hand will take on defending champion Labasa at 6pm and will need at least a draw to progress as they have a better goal difference in the group.

The teams:

Ba- Josaia Ratu (Misiwani Nairube), Meli Codro, Manasa Nawakula, Remueru Tekiate, Samuela Nabenia, Abbu Zahid (C),  Mavileko Nakama (Sanaila Waqanicakau), Sitiveni Cavuilagi, Kishan Sami, Laisenia Raura, Naren Rao.
