Ba upsets champs Nadi, wins NZFFI IDC

NZ Ba won the 2017 New Zealand Fiji Football Inc (NZFFI) Inter District Championship after beating a star studded defending champion NZ Nadi outfit 1-0 in a pulsating final at Bill McKinlay Park in Panmure, Auckland today.

Onehunga FC central defender Ross Haviland scored the winner for Ba in the second half.

NZ Nadi laced with the likes of Samuela Kautoga, Dave Radrigai, James Hoyt, Andrew Abba, Adam Dickinson, Chris Bale and Rinal Prasad and entered the final with the favorites tag but sheer determination and team work saw Ba walk away with top honours.

Ba had the services of former Navua rep Sheik Moshin, former Lautoka striker Mohammed Taslim Rahiman, former Rewa rep Ratu Luke Lomasalato and current Fiji national squad member Altaaf Sahib.

Goalkeeper and Captain Faizal Hanif played a Man of the Match role for the Men In Black and denied many opportunities to the opponents.

Ba Manager Nadeem Hakim told FijiLive that team work and unity between the players helped them win the tournament.

“Prayers from the fans and hard work from our team director Qais Hussein behind the scene attributed to our success. Everybody worked hard for this tournament and we are glad to finish on top,” he said.

Earlier in the semifinals, Ba defeated Nasinu 2-1 while Nadi overcame Rewa 2-1.

Ba received $3000 for winning the Rams Group of Companies sponsored IDC and also walked away with the Best Team award while Hakim was the given the Best Manager award.

Meanwhile the Rams Group of Companies sponsored four day event also had numerous Fijian district reps playing for different teams.
