Fiji Barbarians beaten by Australia in final

The Fiji Barbarians were beaten 19-17 in the grand finale of the Central Coast 7s by host Australia Gold tonight.

The Jerry Tuwai Captained side trailed 14-5 at halftime with nippy halfback scoring their lone first half try.

Forwards Apisai Domolailai and Mesulame Kunavula scored in the second half but a try by the Aussies sealed the narrow win and $20,000 prize money for them.

This was Australia’s second final win over the Fiji Barbarians in as many tournaments, after coming out on top in the invitational Oktoberfest 7s in Munich.

Earlier in the semifinals, Australia Gold defeated Stallions 33-12 while a hat-trick of tries from Waisea Nacuqu saw Fiji Barbarians beat Tabadamu 28-14.

In the quarterfinals; Fiji Barbarians thumped Uluinakau 45-0, Australia Gold walloped NSW Waratahs 43-7, and Stallions overcame Island Breeze 26-19 while Tabadamu outclassed Australia Green 40-17.

Meanwhile Tabadamu finished third after beating Stallions 26-21.

And in the women’s division, Fijiana won the Plate after beating Sunnybank 24-7.

The Ana Maria Roqica skippered side earlier lost to host and eventual winners Australia 34-0 in the quarterfinals.
