Lautoka wins battle of cities clash

Host Lautoka registered a convincing 2-0 victory over Suva in their opening Group A match at Churchill Park tonight.

Midfielder Dave Radrigai set up both of Lautoka’s goals in each half.

He first set up Praneel Naidu to open their account in the 38th minute after beating the entire Suva defence and goalkeeper.

And his second set-up was a beauty as he walked past a couple of defenders and laid the ball into the path of striker Samuela Drudru who slammed the ball beyond a hapless Tevita Koroi.

Suva applied the pressure towards the later stages of the match but goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara denied Setareki Hughes and Ravinesh Karan Singh on two occasions.

Lautoka introduced Australia based Sudanese striker Majok Piok in place of Valerio Nawatu but the lanky marksman failed to make much impact and was not allowed much space by the Suva defence.

Suva will play Nadi in its next match at 4pm tomorrow while Lautoka will come up against Tavua at 6pm.

 The teams:

Lautoka- Beniamino Mateinaqara, Iliesa Lino, Zibraaz Sahib, Dave Radrigai, Kavaia Rawaqa, Leisari Qalica (Siotame Kubu), Valerio Nawatu (Majok Piok), Laitia Tuilau (C), Samuela Drudru, Kolinio Sivoki (Jone Vesikula), Praneel Naidu.
