Fijiana ends campaign in third spot

The Fiji Airways Fijiana side finished its campaign in the 2017 Oceania 7s Championship in third spot after beating Papua New Guinea 39-0 in its playoff match at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today.

The Ana Maria Roqica skippered side scored three unanswered tries in the first half through Tima Ravisa, Rusila Nagasau and Lavenia Tinai to lead 17-0 at halftime.

Asinate Savu, Ravisa, Nagasau and Mereula Toroti scored four more tries in the second half to seal victory for Fiji.

Coach Iliesa Tanivula was pleased with the result and said his players picked their game after their heavy loss to New Zealand in the semifinals.

“It was a very good performance against PNG and I can say that we are on track and should get better before the commencement of the World Series.”

“The wet and slippery conditions somewhat affected our performance but the girls really used their chances well and played with a lot of confidence. Finishing third is satisfactory for me and we will work hard from here on and shift our focus to the Series,” he said.
