Fiji Bati wallops Wales, sets World Cup record

The Vodafone Fiji Bati side recorded its biggest win at a Rugby League World Cup last night after thrashing Wales 72-6 in Townsville.

The Kevin Naiqama skippered side was simply unstoppable in their 14 tries romp.

Eloni Vunakece, Suliasi Vunivalu, Henry Raiwalui, Salesi Faingaa, Taane Milne and Marcelo Montoya scored a try each while Viliame Kikau grabbed two as Fiji took a commanding 42-6 halftime lead.

Fullback Jarryd Hayne set a new World Cup record early in the second half as he scored Fiji’s 9th try and his 14th (highest number of tries by an individual in the Rugby League World Cup).

Vunivalu followed with two more tries to complete a hat-trick in the match while Milne, Joe Lovodua and Ben Nakubuwai also crossed over the try-line.

Fiji Bati meets Italy in its next match on Friday.
