Fiji books spot in Oceania 7s final

Defending champion Fiji has progressed to the final of the 2017 Oceania 7s after beating Samoa 17-7 in a thrilling semifinal at the ANZ Stadium in Suva today.

The hosts were first to get on the board in the 2nd minute after lanky forward Kalione Nasoko dived in the corner for their opening try.

Samoa hit back a minute later and a converted try by Neria Fomai gave them a 7-5 lead.

A surge of attacks by the Fijians towards the end of the first half saw Nasoko dive in for his second try and give the side a 10-7 halftime lead.

The second half proved to be very tight as the Samoans pressed hard and the Fijians defended well.

A cross-kick by Vatemo Ravouvou found Waisea Nacuqu in the clear and the nippy halfback raced over all the way to the try-line to seal victory.

Fiji Airways sponsored Fiji 7s team will now face New Zealand in the grand finale later this evening.
