Lautoka holds champs Nadi in opener

Defending champion Nadi and Lautoka played to a 1-1 draw in the feature Day 1 fixture of the 2017 Pacific Cup in Auckland today.

As expected, the encounter between the two Western Giants proved to be a thrilling contest with the big crowd at Bill McKinley Park enjoying a display of constructive and fast paced football.

Nadi fielded guest players Christopher Clarke, Mark Jones,  Mataiasi Toma and Iliki Ravosai in its starting line-up while the Blues had the same lineup which played the IDC final, except Zibraaz Sahib who could not travel with the team due to visa restrictions.

Lautoka drew first blood in the 20th minute from a Kolinio Sivoki penalty after defender Ame Votoniu handled the ball inside the Nadi box.

The Jetsetters were able to level the match in the 47th minute from a spot kick after lanky Rusiate Matarerega was fouled inside the box.

Defender Jones neatly placed the ball beyond the reach of goalkeeper Beniaminio Mateinaqara with his attempt.

Jacks/ One Builders and UBN sponsored Nadi will face AFFA Savusavu All Stars in its next match at 6.55pm tomorrow while Design Engineering Lautoka will come up against NZFFI Manukau All Stars at 8.05pm.
