Fiji makes impressive start in Dubai

Fiji made an impressive start to its campaign in Dubai 7s today and thrashed Russia 50-7 in its opening match.

The Fiji Airways sponsored side led 26-7 at halftime with lanky forward Mesulame Kunavula, Captain Jerry Tuwai, nippy Waisea Nacuqu and Kalione Nasoko scoring the tries while Eduard Filaton scored the lone try for the Russians.

Tuwai started the scoring for the Fijians in the second half and replacements John Stewart, Apenisa Cakaunivalu and Eroni Sau followed with a try each to wrap up the big win.

Fiji faces Wales in its next match at 10.06pm.

In earlier matches, Argentina defeated USA 22-14, New Zealand overcame Samoa 24-12 and Australia thumped Wales 38-7.
