Fijiana finishes 11th in Dubai 7s

Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side finished eleventh in the HSBC Women’s World Sevens Series opener in Dubai today.

After losing all their pool matches, the Iliesa Tanivula coached side also lost the Trophy semifinal 17-14 to South Africa and registered its only win of the tournament in the 11th place playoff, narrowly beating Japan 17-15.

Meanwhile Australia won the tournament thrashing the United States of America 34-0 in the final.

The Aussies earlier thumped Canada 25-7 while the USA accounted for Russia 22-12.

Russia finished in third place after beating Canada 10-5 while world champs New Zealand who were knocked out 14-12 by USA in the quarterfinals, finished fifth after beating France 24-0.

The next leg of the Women’s World Sevens Series will be played in Sydney from 26-28 January in Sydney.
