Former Fiji 7s squad member Emori Waqa has been named in the Australian 7s squad for this weekend’s Darwin 7s.
The Tabadamu speedster who was ruled ineligible to represent Fiji in 2015 as he had already represented Sri Lanka in an Asian tournament is one of the two Fijian players named by Coach Andy Friend.
The other Fijian in the team is 20-year-old Queensland Country outside centre Veresa Mataitini who featured strongly in the 2017 National Rugby Championship.
Australian Sevens star Tom Lucas will also make a comeback to the squad after recovering from a shoulder injury.
Lucas and Jesse Parahi are the two big guns for the tournament in Darwin this weekend and this will also be the final chance to impress for the fringe players among the squad, with the Sydney Sevens kicking off Friday week.
"It’s a great opportunity for the lads to go out and impress as there’s a couple of positions still up for grabs for the Sydney7s squad," Friend said.
This is the start of big three week stint for us with Sydney next week and the World Series event in Hamilton the week after.
The Hottest Sevens will feature eight women's teams and 32 men's teams from throughout Australia and around the world.
Australian Men's Sevens side- Charlie Taylor, Sam Croke, Dylan Pietsch, Jeral Skelton, Emori Waqa, Henry Clunies-Ross, Brandon Quinn, Jesse Parahi (C), Matthew Hood, Toma Lucas, Veresa Mataitini, Nicky Price.
