Labasa holds champs Lautoka in CVC opener

Labasa held defending champion Lautoka to a goal-less draw in the first leg of the 2018 Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion series at Subrail Park today.

The Babasiga Lions played with a lot of passion and confidence and despite missing the likes of Amani Makoe, Anish Khem and Edwin Sahayam, they displayed a very impressive performance and created some good scoring chances in both spells.

Lautoka on the other hand, led by former Labasa marksman Christopher Wasasala took some time to get settled in the match and had to pull out Siotame Kubu and send in veteran Peni Finau late in the first half to boost their attack.

Goalkeepers Beniamino Mateinaqara and Akuila Mateisuva were in outstanding form and made some daring saves to keep a clean sheet in the encounter.

Labasa striker Ratu Apenisa Anare missed two good chances late in the match while Wasasala and Samuela Drudru were denied by Mateisuva.

The second leg of the Champion vs Champion will be played on Friday evening at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
