Imports shine in Lautoka’s OCL opener

Benjamin Totori, Cory Chettleburgh and Brian Kaltack scored a goal each as Lautoka registered an impressive 3-1 victory over Madang FC of Papua New Guinea in its opening match of the 2018 OFC Champions League in Auckland today.

The Kamal Swamy coached side showed sheer determination and hunger to win and started attacking from the opening whistle.

Totori, Samuela Drudru and Osea Vakatalesau missed a couple of sitters early in the match and the Solomons international managed to get his 23rd OFC Champs League goal in the 20th minute after Drudru walked past a couple of defenders on the right flank and sent in a low cross inside the box which was laid his path by Vakatalesau.

Totori provided the assist for the second goal in the 32nd minute to Chettleburgh and the Kiwi midfielder neatly placed the ball to the right of the goalkeeper.

Maskulan Pulung pulled one back for Madang FC in the 40th minute to keep the scores within reach as the two sides headed to the break with Lautoka enjoying a 2-1 lead.

The Blues maintained their consistency in the second half and former Vanautu captain Brian Kaltack second the third and final goal of the match in the 76th minute with a beautiful free-kick which landed into the roof of the net.

Veteran defender Jone Vesikula, Mohammed Shazil Ali and youngster Arami Manumanubai were introduced in the last quarter of the match while defender Kolinio Sivoki and Chettleburgh copped yellow cards in added time.
