Nadi beats Labasa, extends VPL lead

Nadi has further extended its lead in the Vodafone Premier League standings after beating Labasa 2-1 at Subrail Park today.

The Jetsetters played with a lot of confidence and looked the better and more determined side as the hosts despite fielding a very strong lineup struggled in the finishing department.

The first half failed to produce any goals and Nadi managed to open its account in the 47th minute through striker Rusiate Matarerega as his powerful free-kick gave goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva no chance at all and landed into the back of the net.

Labasa was reduced to ten players after Christopher Wasasala was sent off for violent conduct in the 80th minute.

With an extra player on the field, Nadi pushed more numbers in attack and Matarerega slammed  in his and Nadi's second goal in the 84th after connecting well with a William Valentine through pass.

The hosts scored a late consolation goal through a Ratu Apenisa Anare header from a set-piece.

Nadi now has 7 points from 3 matches and plays its fourth match against Dreketi at 1.30pm tomorrow in Subrail Park.
