Fiji finishes third in Las Vegas 7s

Fiji ended its campaign in Las Vegas in third place after winning the Bronze medal playoff 26-22 against South Africa at the Sam Boyd Stadium in Nevada today.

The Fijians after losing 19-7 to hosts USA displayed a much improved performance and led 19-5 at halftime with Jerry Tuwai grabbing a brace of tries and towering forward Paula Dranisinukula getting one.

Ruhan Nel scored the lone try of the first half for the South Africans.

Nel and Dylan Sage scored for the South Africans in the second half to narrow the gap to 19-15 before Alosio Naduva sprinted away to score Fiji’s fourth try.

Youngster Selwyn Davids scored another try for South Africa before the final hooter to keep the pressure on the Fijians but good defensive play and a gutsy effort saw the Gareth Baber coached side hang on and walk away with a win.
