Fiji to meet South Africa in semifinals

Fiji thrashed Argentina 45-7 in its Cup quarterfinal clash of the Vancouver 7s this morning and will play South Africa in the semifinals.

Winger Eroni Sau sprinted away from his own try-line to the other end to score Fiji’s opening try in the first minute of play.

Sevuloni Mocenacagi claimed the restart and scored Fiji’s second try a couple of seconds later and two further tries by Kalione Nasoko and Mesulame Kunavula gave the Fijians a 24-0 halftime lead.

Kunavula got his double of the match after the break and Alosio Naduva finished off a brilliant Nasoko move to put Fiji up by 38-0.

Replacement play-maker Amenoni Nasilasila scored Fiji’s final try while Argentina scored a converted try at the death.

South Africa on the other hand came from 19-0 down to beat Australia 24-19 in its quarterfinal clash.

In the other quarters, United States of America (USA) defeated New Zealand 17-0 while Kenya sent defending champions England out of the Cup competition after registering a 12-0 win.

The Cup semifinals commence at 10.08am.
