Tabadamu wins four in a row, creates history

Tabadamu Blue created Marist 7s history tonight at the ANZ Stadium in Suva by becoming the only club to have lifted the title for four consecutive years after beating Police Blue 17-12 in the sudden death of a pulsating final.

The Suva based club entered the final with the favorites tag against a star-studded Police outfit which was led by former national rep Sitiveni Waqa.

Police started the match attacking and scored two tries through Meli Kurisaru and Kitione Taliga to lead 12-0 at halftime.

Tabadamu came out strongly and scored two late tries through Jone Vota and Apenisa Cakaubalavu to level the scores and taken the match into extra time.

Veteran Police rover Mitieli Nacagilevu was sin-binned at the restart as he illegally stripped the ball from an opponent.

With an extra player on the field, Tabadamu went attacking and nippy halfback Teri Tamani scored the winner after touching down in the corner after initially knocking the ball backwards from an off-load.

Tabadamu walked away $11,000 richer while Police received $5000 for reaching the final.

Tabadamu playmaker Samu Bale won the tournament’s top try-scorer award after touching down 6 times over the two days while speedster Suliano Volivoli was named the New Find of the 42nd Fiji Bitter Marist 7s.
