NZ beats Fiji to win Commonwealth gold

New Zealand won the gold medal in the Men’s 7s Rugby competition at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast today after beating Fiji 14-0 in the final.

The Kiwis played with sheer determination and two first half tries to Etene Nanai-Seturo and Regan Ware were enough to seal victory against the Fijians who made numerous errors and also lost focus and discipline at times.

Lanky Fijian forward Sevuloni Mocenacagi was sent to the sin-bin just before the break as he made an illegal tackle on Sam Dickson.

France based Semi Kunatani did not feature in the final after copping a head injury in their 24-19 extra time victory over South Africa.

Meanwhile it was a double delight for New Zealand as their women’s team also claimed gold after beating Australia 17-12 in extra time.
