Fiji makes blistering start in Singapore 7s

The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s side kicked off its Singapore 7s campaign on a high note today and thumped Japan 45-12.

The Gareth Baber coached side looked ruthless from the first whistle and scored three tries through Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Paula Dranisinukula and Alosio Naduva to lead 21-0 at halftime.

Japan claimed two restarts and scored double tries through Tachi Yoshizawa and Joseph Kamana to narrow the scores to 21-12.

Fiji made some timely changes and Sledgehammer Eroni Sau bulldozed his way to score two tries while Captain Tuwai and veteran Isake Katonibau touched down once to wrap up the impressive victory.

In another Pool A match, Spain walloped Russia 38-5.

Fiji plays Russia in its next match at 9.02pm (Fiji Time) before taking on Spain at 12.28am tomorrow.
