Fijiana finishes 8th in Langford 7s

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side finished its campaign in the Langford 7s in Canada in 8th place yesterday.

Despite registering impressive results in pool play on Sunday, the Iliesa Tanivula coached side wilted under pressure in the elimination round and lost all of its three matches yesterday.

Fijiana defeated England 24-14 and Brazil 47-14 and went down narrowly 12-7 to eventual winners New Zealand in pool play.

In their quarterfinal clash, Fiji was beaten 21-5 by Australia and was relegated to the fifth place semifinal.

In the fifth place semifinal, Fiji was defeated 17-5 by Russia and had to play for the seventh spot against England where the English women managed to take revenge of their pool match loss and posted a 29-24 win.

Fiji has now dropped to tenth spot in the standings with 21 points.

Meanwhile New Zealand walloped Australia 46-0 in the final.

The final tournament of the 2017/18 Women’s World Sevens Series will be played in Paris from June 8-10 June.
