Waranaivalu keeps Suva in contention

Midfielder Tevita Waranaivalu headed in a late winner as Suva overcame Tavua 1-0 in its second match of the 2018 Vodafone Premier League today at  Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori to keep its semifinal hopes alive.

After losing 1-0 to Lautoka last night, the Tuka Tisam coached side needed a win to stay in contention.

Tavua, fresh from their 2-1 win over Nadi yesterday was again impressive and displayed good and entertaining football and kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.

The teams rested 0-0 at halftime and Tavua missed a couple of good sitters in front of goal in the second half before finally make a defensive blunder and allowing Filipe Baravilala to swing in a beautiful cross which was met with a well-timed Waranaivalu header giving goalkeeper Jovilisi Borisi no chance whatsoever.

Suva and Tavua both have 3 points after two matches and will now need positive results in their final group matches tomorrow.

Tavua will play Lautoka at 11am tomorrow while Suva will come up against Nadi at 3pm.

Starting teams:

Suva- Simione Tamanisau, Epeli Leiroti, Tevita Waranivalu, Remueru Tekiate, Kelvin Naidu, Kaliova Tivulu, Bruce Hughes, Sakaraia Naisua, Waisake Navunigasau, Shahil Dave, Ravinesh Karan Singh.
