Katonibau bailed, given travel ban

Fiji 7s rep Isake Katonibau has been released on bail by the Magistrates Court in Suva under strict conditions and has been banned from traveling overseas.

He has been released on $5000 personal bail bond, $1000 cash bail with two sureties in the sum of $3000.

Katonibau is charged with serious assault.

He has been ordered to surrender his travel documents, not to re-offend and not to interfere with witnesses.

It is alleged Katonibau in the early hours of June 17 assaulted Special Constable Peni Verekauta along Carnavon Street in Suva.

The officer was trying to stop a brawl involving Katonibau when it is alleged he punched Constable Verekauta twice, resulting in some serious injury.

The case has been adjourned to August 13.
