Pools drawn for Battle Of Giants

The pools of the 2018 INKK Mobile Battle of Giants were drawn in Lautoka today.

Defending champion Rewa was drawn in Group A with last season’s losing finalist Nadi, Suva and Dreketi.

Group B has host Lautoka, Ba, Labasa and Tavua.

Speaking at the draw, Acting Fiji FA President Yogeshwar Singh said BOG is an integral tournament which under the new Fiji FA calendar system is also the last major tourney of the season.

“BOG has been held since 1978. The last two tournaments- Courts IDC and Vodafone Fiji FACT have been very competitive and since the INKK Mobile BOG is the last tournament of the season, all teams will come prepared to lay their claim.”

“Winning is very important for the district teams because they get points so that they can also qualify for the Pacific Cup which this year will be held in Sydney, Australia in November. So it is important for those teams that have not won so far to work hard and also qualify for the Pacific Cup.”

“I understand the competition in the BOG will be tough because the Vodafone Premier League is also competitive. There is not much differentiating the teams in the league standings so we expect the same rivalry in the BOG. The BOG will be played in the third week of July so I wish the teams all the best and may the best team win,” he added.

The group matches will be played at Churchill Park in Lautoka from July 20-22 and the semifinals and final will be played the following weekend which will also include the RC Manubhai/APCO Coatings Fiji International Veterans Tournament.

BOG winner walks away with a prize money of $15,000 while the runners up get $4000 and the two losing semifinalists receive $1000 each.

Iosefo Verevou netted a double to guide Rewa to a 2-0 win over Nadi in the final at Churchill Park last year.
