Northland wins Vanua Championship

Northland claimed the 2018 Vodafone Vanua Championship title at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori last night after beating neighbours Tailevu 8-6 in a pulsating final.

The final proved to be a tightly contested affair and Tailevu led 6-3 at halftime.

Fullback Etonia Rokotuisawa kicked a drop goal and play-maker Jese Tubunaruarua kicked a penalty for Tailevu while Northland’s points came from the boot of Alifereti Mocelutu.

The second half was evenly matched and Northland after applying some pressure late in the match, managed to score the winning try through towering prop Dan Ligairi.

Both teams will now feature in the 2019 Skipper Cup in the new season.
