19 new COVID-19 infections recorded

Fiji has recorded 19 new cases of COVID-19 in the last seven days.

Of the 19 new cases recorded, 18 were recorded in the Central Division and 1 in the Western Division.

2 re-infection cases were also recorded in the Central Division.

The national 7-day rolling average of cases as of 1st January is 4 daily cases.

The Central Division cases constitute 66 per cent of the cumulative total cases nationally, with the Western division making up 28 per cent, 4 per cent in the Northern Division, and 2 per cent in the Eastern Division.

The Health Ministry says with China now open for inward and outward travel and given the high level of the outbreak in mainland China and the possibility of variant formation, they are ready to review some public health border measures.

Fiji currently does not have direct travel from China.

The Ministry’s current stance is that no new travel restrictions will be put in place however, they also do not rule out the possibility of travel restrictions in the future.
