$200 education support for Fijian children: Govt

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Coalition Government will offer back-to-school assistance of $200 per child to families, whose combined income is $50,000 and below.

In an address to the nation this afternoon, Rabuka said this is to assist families facing hardships and challenges the last couple of years.

Rabuka highlighted this is due to COVID-19 and the contraction of Fiji’s economy, whereby a lot of people have lost their jobs.

The government has set aside $50 million for this programme.

“This is through the redeployment of funds within the current budget. It is our hope that this assistance will in many ways ease the way back to financial stability for families who are still recovering from the dire economic events of 2022 and 2021.”

The Prime Minister said one of the core areas of the Coalition Government’s commitment to the Fijian people is support for Education.
