Juveniles, females charged for sex crimes

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions charged three juveniles and two females for serious sexual offences last month.

A 14-year-old boy was charged with the rape of his 3-year-old niece while in another incident a 16-year-old boy was charged with the rape of his 7-year-old niece.

In another case, a 16-year-old boy was charged with the rape of his 5-year-old cousin.

A 46-year-old woman was charged with the rape and sexual assault of her 9-year-old daughter, while in another incident a 30-year-old woman was charged with the rape of a 4-year-old girl.

However both the matters were discontinued due to insufficient evidence and to allow Police to conduct further investigation in these matters.

There were 30 people charged with a total of 69 counts of sexual offences in February.

The counts for sexual offences were rape (47), attempted rape (4), assault with intent to commit rape (1), indecent assault (4), incest by relative (2), defilement (1) and sexual assault (10).

There were 30 victims of whom 20 victims were under the age of 18 years and there were 19 incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.
