Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh says a holistic approach is needed for progress in the sugar industry.
While meeting industry stakeholders earlier in the week, Singh said they need to share resources and expertise, and the spirit of cooperation to revitalise and revamp the ailing sugar sector.
“We are here for the many livelihoods that depend directly and indirectly on the industry.”
“We must think of the livelihoods of the growers who are selflessly committing themselves for the industry.”
He also stated that a Sugar Industry Standing Committee will be established to develop the industry’s strategic documents.
“This will set clear and tangible targets for the industry as a whole, as there is a need to develop a strategy that will serve as a living document binding all the stakeholders.”
