Academy tourney to act as selection platform

Netball Fiji will host a national academy tournament from 12 to 14 of this month  which will serve as a crucial selection platform for the Baby Pearls.

Netball Fiji chief executive Vivian Koster said the selection is part of the Baby Pearl gearing up for the Netball World Youth Cup Qualifier next year while the tournament signifies the conclusion of the 2023 National Academy training campaign.

“We recognise the effort our Academy athletes have put in this year, and want to see them in a competition setting. This will allow Netball Fiji to select a 21&U squad and prepare for the Netball World Youth Cup.”

“We are also happy to have the Victorian and South Australian Institutes of Sports 19&U teams in the competition. It is an opportunity for our Academy athletes to test themselves.”

A total of eight teams will be participating in the tournament including two teams from Australia, the Victoria Institute of Sport and South Australia Institute of Sport.

The athletes in the National Academy will be divided into five teams and there will also be a Fiji selection team comprising current Fiji Pearls squad members who are 21 and Under and overseas-based players who have indicated their interest in representing Fiji.
