An insult to religious freedom: Chaudhry

National Federation Party’s Assistant General Secretary, Bimal Chaudhry says for anyone to say that schools owned by religious organisations are wasting valuable learning time by closing the respective schools to observe and celebrate significant religious festivals is a gross insult to religious freedom.

Commenting on a post by lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry who stated that Hindu schools are
wasting valuable learning time by closing to celebrate religious activities namely Holi, Ram Naumi and Krishn Janam Ashtami, Chaudhry said Chaudhry (Rajendra) deliberately ignores and is totally dismissive of the founding values of these schools and the importance of these festivals in inculcating the necessary moral and social values in grooming productive citizenry.

Chaudhry had posted  following an announcement to this effect by the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, which is a major stakeholder of Fiji’s education sector.

“Lest he forget the message of these Hindu festivals are nothing but a celebration of
victory of righteousness over evil. Does he support evil now?

“In any case both he and his father who is the Leader of the Fiji Labour Party supported the overthrow at gunpoint of a democratically elected multi-party Government by joining an unelected regime.”

“In the process, they lost all their political morality and credibility because by joining
the regime, they endorsed the overthrow of nine Fiji Labour Party Ministers from the
multi-party Government.”

“They trampled righteousness and truth through their actions. This is what the Coalition Government is trying to permanently end through its Truth and Reconciliation Commission.”

“And this is what the religious activities are aiming to inculcate in our students to never support injustice and evil by observing the religious activities.”

He added that Chaudhry owes an apology to the Hindus of Fiji for his insult.
