Champs Police to face Army in semis

Defending champions Police will face Army in the second semifinal of the 2023 McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka tomorrow.

This is after the Sale Tubuna coached side overcame arch rivals Raiwasa Taveuni 12-5 in the last quarterfinal this evening.

Losing Waisea Lawebuka early in the match to a yellow proved costly for Raiwasa Taveuni as Police applied the pressure and Livai Ikanikoda combined with Josevani Soro to set up Josese Batirerega for the first try in the fifth minute.

The Northerners almost got back in the match through Patrick Rasomo but the ball went forward in the action.

Police led 5-0 at halftime.

Raiwasa came in the second stanza applying extra pressure and stylish Daniele Yaya threatened with his silky skills.

The lawmen were determined to book their spot in the semifinal and some good infield plays from Batirerega and Ikanikoda fed the ball to Peni Kuruisiga to score under the posts and convert for a 12-0 lead.

Raiwasa Taveuni managed to score a late consolation try through Rasomo.

Meanwhile Army proved too strong in its quarterfinal clash against the Pacific Nomads and registered a 31-0 win.

The Police vs Army semifinal clash will kick off at 2.40pm.
