Cyber capabilities of Police investigators enhanced

Four Fijian Police officers graduated from a Cyber Safety Pasifika’s Cyber Crime Awareness Course in Noumea, New Caledonia in the past week.

Inspector of Police (IP) Marica Veibete, Sergeant Ana Bolavere and Sergeant Jone Naitini from the Cyber Crime Unit and Post Officer Narere Community Post Police Constable (PC) Ritesh Kumar benefited from the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police and the Australian Federal Police initiative.

The one week training saw the two Cybercrime officers attend the Cyber Crime Investigation Foundation Program while IP Veibete Constable Kumar attended the Cyber Awareness and Education Community Officer Program.

Director International Relations, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ulaiasi Ravula said noting the growing threats brought on by cybercrimes and the dark web, the training covered both the proactive and reactive measures.

SSP Ravula said the Fiji Police Force has benefited greatly from the Cyber Safety Pasifika Program since its establishment in 2017, whereby a number of officers have undergone the Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 specialized cybercrime training.
