Dad inspires Khan to play football

16-year-old central defender William Khan is out to make his family proud by donning the Fijian jumper in next week’s OFC U17 Championship in Suva.

The Year 12 student of Cuvu College in Sigatoka says his father Andrew Feroz Khan inspired him to play football at any early age.

“When I was 10, I got interested in football. My father gave me a ball to juggle. I always look at my friends, my brothers and especially my village friends who always play at my compound- I was inspired by them as well as my father.”

“I play as a central defender for the Baby Bula Boys because my father advised me to play in that position.”

The Kulukulu native said he is ready to give his best and is aware of the tough task ahead.

“I’m so excited to be part of the team. It is a dream come true as I always wanted to wear the white jersey and now it has come true. A lot of hard work and dedication has led me this far and also the support from my parents.”

“My aim in this tournament is to help my team and my country qualify for the World Cup.”

“My advice to the young footballers is that whatever you do, do it from your heart, never put yourself down, always go for your goal and never forget to thank the lord Almighty.”

Fiji will open its OFC Under 17 campaign against Samoa at 7pm next Thursday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
