DPP sanctions rape charge against Police officer

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has sanctioned charges against a Police officer alleged to have raped a woman at the Valelevu Police single officers barracks in the weekend.

The accused has been charged with one count of Rape Contrary to Section 207 (1) and (2) (a) of the Crimes Act 2009.

He will be produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci reaffirms the organisation’s commitment to ensuring due processes are followed concerning any report lodged against a Police officer, through the conduct of an internal or crime investigation, whereby independent legal advice is sought from the ODPP concerning a criminal matter.
