Farmers to participate in ITEC program

14 esteemed sugarcane farmers will participate in the prestigious Indian Technical and Economic Corporation (ITEC) program, facilitated by the Indian government.

The initiative aims to enrich the knowledge and expertise of our local farmers by engaging them in India’s renowned Sugar Industry for a two-week educational visit.


Minister for Sugar Industry,  Charan Jeath Singh while addressing the farmers emphasised the importance of leveraging global expertise to propel Fiji’s sugar industry to greater heights.

“India has much to teach us about the sugar industry. This trip is an important opportunity for our farmers to gain invaluable knowledge and skills that will directly contribute to enhancing sugarcane production in Fiji,” he said.

“I encourage each participant to fully utilize this opportunity and learn as much as possible on the new innovative and techniques that you will see.”

This inaugural trip marks the commencement of a promising collaboration between Fiji and India in advancing sugar industry.


The Ministry affirms its commitment to organize more similar visit for the sugar cane farmers to learn new innovative and technologies from other development partners.
