FBC board appointments to be made soon

The Ministry of Public Enterprise has taken charge of affairs of the board of the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation and is expected to make the necessary appointments of its board members and the chairman.

This was after the former board chair; Sashi Singh, indicated that they have all resigned to make way for the new appointments.

Singh had indicated that the Ministry of Public Enterprise will be looking after the affairs of the board and that the prerogative is on the ministry to appoint the board.

The Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka is the Minister Responsible for Public Enterprise, is expected to make an announcement on these appointments.

Senior officials in the Office of the Prime Minister have indicated that businessman Ajay Bhai Amrit and Social Democratic Liberal Party member Tanya Waqanika are rumoured to join the FBC board.

Last week, in his address to the nation, said they have started an investigation into what appears to be excessive spending in the Department of Information, through payments to the public affairs company Qorvis, the local communications company VATIS, FBC and the FBC.
