We need to build confidence: Prasad

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics, Professor Biman Prasad says there is a need to build a culture where businesses and taxpayers feel confident.

Speaking to Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) staff and management during his and Assistant Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel’s welcome ceremony today, Prof Prasad said he is confident that the organisation will move into new heights.

“We will together as partners ensure that we collect enough revenue in an efficient way that builds confidence, builds business and supports economic growth.”

“We need to build confidence within the business community, within the taxpayer community and we need to ensure that we create a culture where businesses feel that they are important, that they will comply with the tax laws and that they will be supported by the FRCS to not only be compliant, but also to build their businesses because if they build their businesses, if they work with FRCS closely – is good for the organisation, good for the Government and good for the country,” he said.

“We want FRCS to have an open-door policy and have a culture where the staff and leaders within the organisation are willing to consult and listen to businesses about ways to improve organisational efficiency and growth in revenue collections.”
