Fiji 7s fall to Ireland in extra time

Fiji went down 24- 19  to Ireland in a pulsating, nail-bitting 5th place play off at the Vancouver 7s.

The match commenced with Fiji’s Joseva Talacolo initiating a strong start, leading to skipper Napolioni Bolaca breaking through for an initial score and conversion, setting Fiji ahead 7-0.

However, Ireland’s Terry Kennedy quickly leveled the playing field, dodging two Fijian defenders to score and convert, bringing the score to a 7-7 tie.

Kennedy stepped up again after a Fijian error near Ireland’s tryline, granting him a second try and putting Ireland ahead 14-7.

Ireland’s Chay Mullins extended their lead by skillfully navigating through Fijian defense for another try.

Fiji then showed excellent teamwork leading to Talacolo’s try, although the missed conversion kept them trailing.

Zac Ward’s individual brilliance for Ireland brought the score to a tight 19-19, pushing the match into extra time.

The high-stakes extension saw Ireland clinch the win with a final try, ending the match 24-19.
