Fiji to pull out citizens from New Caledonia

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he is looking at possibly pulling Fiji citizens out of New Caledonia due to the civil unrest currently facing the French territory.

According to new sources, the French forces are trying to stem unrest in the Pacific island territory of New Caledonia and clear dozens of barricades blocking the main road linking the airport to the capital, Noumea.

Around 60 barricades that protesters had put up along the 60km road have been dismantled, but the road is not yet open as debris needs to be cleared, which will take several days.

Rabuka said to evacuate Fiji citizens from New Caledonia, he is looking to New Zealand and Australia for support.
