Defending champions France has booked its spot in the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after beating Morocco 2-0 in the second semifinal in Qatar today.
Entering their first-ever semifinal, Morocco refused to buckle despite losing key defender Nayef Aguerd to injury.
France took the lead in the 5th minute when a deflected shot by Kylian Mbappé fell on the foot of defender Théo Hernández and he found the back of the net.
Fifteen minutes later, Moroccan captain, Romain Saïss, was substituted due to injury.
Morocco got the last big chance of the first half as Jawad El Yamiq attempted a bicycle kick off a corner that fell to him inside the 18-yard box but the shot connected with the post.
Coming off the bench, Kolo Muani extended France’s lead in the 79th minute when he turned in and powered in Mbappe’s deflected shot.
France will play Argentina in the World Cup final at 3am (Fiji Time) on Sunday while Morocco will play Croatia in the third/fourth place playoff on Saturday.
