Goal is to reach World Cup: Kumar

Fiji U16 Coach Sunil Kumar says their goal is to qualify for the Under 17 FIFA World Cup that will be played in Peru later this year.

Kumar said the players have been encouraged and are inspired by Fiji Under 19’s qualification into the FIFA U20 World Cup in July in Indonesia.

“When we first met, we had a goal that is to qualify for the World Cup because the Junior Bula Boys had already set a platform for us and also the inspiration to our boys.”

“When the boys came into camp, they were quite confident looking at the junior boys that yes, it’s possible. All of them have a goal that they can go to the World Cup and qualify for the World Cup”

“World Cup is our main goal. At the moment we are focusing on our first match against Samoa and then as we go along the championship, then we’ll focus on the other teams.”

Fiji will open their OFC Under 17 campaign against Samoa at 7pm at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva next Thursday.
