Gold medal, a perfect send-off for Buatoka

Ratu Kadavulevu School athlete Rokolei Buatoka says his 2023 Coca-Cola Games gold medal is a cherished send-off as he embarks on a new journey next year.

The 14-year-old year who migrates to Australia next year jumped a height of 1.63 metres in the Sub Junior Boys High Jump to claim top place at the HFC Bank Stadium today.

The Nakorotubu in Ra lad said winning gold in his first and last Coca-Cola Games is one he would remember for a while.

“It was something special,” Buatoka said.

“But to get the win at the Cokes before I go is something big.”

Buatoka aims to continue his sporting prowness in another sport.

“I’d really like to play rugby when I go over to Australia and hopefully I do well.

He dedicated the win to all his teammates and his family that has been a pillar of support.

Meanwhile fellow team mate Ratu Isoa Lesuma took the silver medal with a height of 1.55 metres and Tevita Dukuiyau of Tavua College got the bronze medal with a height of 1.55 metres.
