Karan sets new time in Men’s 1,500m

Fiji’s golden boy Yeshnil Karan has made progress with a new personal best in the Men’s 1,500m at the Cathy Freeman Shield in Brisbane on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

Clocking a time of 3 minutes and 53.19 seconds, Karan not only improved his previous best by nearly five seconds but also secured his position as the third-fastest runner in the history of Fiji Athletics for the event.

This latest achievement propels Karan into an elite group of athletes, surpassing the times set by Fiji’s renowned runners like Isireli Naikelekelevesi, Davendra Prakash Singh, and Moses Zarak Khan.

Remarkably, this is the fastest time recorded by a Fijian athlete in the 1,500m event in over four decades, with only Rick Kermode and Usaia Sotutu ahead of him in the record books.

Karan’s mentor, Isireli Naikelekelevesi, who also contributed to his training during the challenging times of the covid pandemic, was among the first to celebrate his protégé’s success.
