Kautoga stars as Rewa march into semis

Veteran marksman Samuela Kautoga scored a goal in each half to guide Rewa to a 3-2 win over Hekari United in their third and final Group A match of the 2024 OFC Champions League in State Paea, Tahiti today.

The result sees the Roderick Singh coached side seal its spot in the semifinals of the regional competition for the first time.

Kautoga opened the scoring in the 31st minute after getting a neat through pass from Epeli Valevou as the Delta Tigers led 1-0 at the break.

Hekari came out strongly in the second spell and a foul inside the box by Valevou saw Joseph Joe level the scores with the spot kick in the 55th minute.

Continuous pressure from the PNG champions saw nippy marksman Solomon Rani put them ahead in the 62nd minute.

Kautoga got the equaliser for Rewa in the 74th minute after heading in a deep cross from Iowane Matanisiga.

While the draw would have been enough for the Fijian champions to progress, they continued to press till the final whistle and hardworking midfielder Tevita Waranaivalu sealed the deal with a late strike deep in injury time.
