Labasa man charged over MPaisa fraud

The Fiji Police Force’s MPaisa Taskforce has charged another individual for allegedly dishonestly obtaining financial advantage via a mobile money transfer service.

The 34-year-old accused from Vunivau in Labasa is alleged to have on the 9th day of December, unlawfully obtained $150 from an individual through the MPaisa platform, by creating a Viber account pretending to be the victim’s employer, asking money from her.

The victim when realizing it was not her employer, reported the matter to Police.

The accused has been charged with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and will be produced at the Labasa Magistrates Court today.
