Lautoka Golden Age Home occupants to relocate

Residents and carers at Lautoka’s Golden Age Home will be moved to temporary accommodation due to the deteriorated condition of their current home.

Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya highlighted this in Parliament today.

She said initially, residents of Golden Age home were supposed to move to the Ba Mission Hospital while the home undergoes renovation but this plan didn’t work out and another building, the Matanakilagi House will now temporarily house the Golden Age Home residents.

A grant of $710,801.00 was allocated for this work.

She further noted that the Ministry through the Provincial Administrator Ba helped secured Matanakilagi House which is owned by Ba Provincial Holding Company Limited.

“The Ministry signed the Letting agreement on 30th April 2024.  Matanakilagi House will have to be renovated to accommodate the elderly residents.”

Renovation works will be undertaken by the Divisional Engineer West (DEW) under the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport at a cost of $341,835.00.

Consultations are also underway for the repairs of the Golden Age Home.
