Man charged for defrauding money exchange teller

A 31-year-old man will be produced at the Nadi Magistrates Court tomorrow charged with allegedly dishonestly obtaining more than $1,200 from a money exchange teller in Labasa.

The matter was investigated by the Fiji Police MPaisa Task Force.

The accused who resides in Solovi, Nadi is alleged to have on the 6 September 2023, called the victim and said he was a mobile company agent.

He then allegedly proceeded to give her instruction on how to set up the Mpaisa Eftpos and e-ticketing machine, and asked her to send the $1,240 amount seen on the machine.

The said money was transferred to his Mpaisa account where he later withdrew it in Namaka.

He has been charged with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception.
