Nehemiah shatters 3 Oceania Youth records

14-year-old Fijian weightlifter, Nehemiah Elder emerged as the Best Youth Male Lifter at the Oceania Youth, Junior, and Senior Weightlifting Championships held at the Dew Drop Events Centre in Auckland, New Zealand after shattering three records.

The Sinclair formula, which considers an athlete’s body weight and the total lifted weight, further highlighted Elder’s outstanding achievements.

In his last international, the Oceania Weightlifting Youth, Junior and under 23 Championship in October last year, Nehemiah lifted 110kg in the snatch, 133kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 243kg that broke the Youth records at that Championship.

Last week, 4 months following his sterling performance in Samoa, he made an incredible and world class performance by improving his snatch by massive 15kg and his clean and jerk by 4kg making a total improvement by 19kg; this is by all levels incredible to say the least.

Also notable is the fact that at the age of 14 and 11months Nehemiah came 3rd in the snatch and 4th in both the clan & jerk and total just missing out by 6kg in the total for a bronze medal.

In recognition of his remarkable performances, Elder was presented with a plaque commemorating his exceptional accomplishment. He surpassed all competitors in his category, underlining his dominance and setting a new standard for excellence in youth weightlifting.

As the Best Youth Male Lifter, Elder has not only showcased his exceptional abilities but has set a high standard for his peers in the weightlifting community.

Weightlifting Fiji views this achievement as just the beginning of what promises to be a remarkable journey for Nehemiah.

At a very tender age, his dedication, talent, and record-breaking feats foreshadow a bright future for this young weightlifting prodigy.
